Hysteria Created by Mainstream Media

Countries Affected By Trump's Immigration Ban
Countries Affected By Trump’s Immigration Ban

What if I told you in today’s world, the mainstream media is dishonest and bias. The people of today have to sift through news to get what they perceive to be the true story and even then it may be false.

Last Friday, President Trump enforced a law that restricts visas from numerous Middle Eastern countries.  Among them are Iraq, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, and Libya.  Trump’s exact words were “I hereby suspend entry into the United States, as immigrants and nonimmigrants, of such persons for 90 days from the date of this order.” Trump claims this ban is for the purpose of keeping the country safe from any future terrorist attacks.  The law will restrict Syrian refugees indefinitely while the other nations will have to wait 90 days.

There are many who have been outraged at the action taken by President Trump like Nancy Pelosi who said “What the president did is not constitutional.” Some have said that the ban is unconstitutional or illegal.  A source from The Hill states that the ban is perfectly legal, “Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.” Moreover people need to know the facts before they make any outcry to the public.

Numerous news outlets have been inaccurate of reporting the true facts.  On one article from the New York Times, the editorial board stated “it sets a blatantly unconstitutional standard by excluding Muslims.”  The claim is that Muslims are being targeted solely.  On the contrary Trump stated “There are over 40 different countries worldwide that are majority Muslim that are not affected by this order.” What many news sources are saying is that there are no exceptions for Muslims in this law which is outright false.  The law clearly states persecuted Muslims have priority as well which further exemplifies that this is not a “Muslim Ban”.

Another important side of the story where Trump is receiving a lot of criticism is why he is acting on these 7 specific countries.  It is now known that of the 9/11 attacks non of the terrorists were from those countries.  The main point is that these countries were selected by the Congress and the Obama Administration because they are thought to be the most involved with terrorism.  So while everyone is blaming Trump for picking these countries, it’s the Obama Administration that selected these places as terror linked countries.

Personally I do not totally agree with Trump’s decision to make an immigration ban but I cannot think of a better solution at this moment.  Furthermore, the ban is not discriminatory and only based on religion, rather the selected countries have been proven to have and been sending terrorists to the United States. Today the media can simply not be trusted.  Where was the outrage when Obama banned all Iraqi refugees for 6 months back in 2011.  That’s twice as much time as Trump’s ban now.
